The Paul Kent troupe entertains!

Jamie Jarrett reports on another enjoyable Society evening at The Arts Club

I'm not sure how our Society does it, but yet again our regular Society evening at The Arts Club in Dover Street, London, provided entertainment of the highest order. Society member Paul Kent has adapted Louder and Funnier, entitling it Plum, Shakespeare and the Cat Chap. Along with three friends this was performed in front of a large, appreciative gathering.

The superb cast were as follows:

John Voce (Bertie, Shakespeare)

Lucy Tregear (Agent, Antigonus, Burbage)

Peter Wear (Wodehouse, Jeeves)

Paul Kent (Narrator, Bacon)

(nb. Lucy Tregear is also a patron of our Society)

Peter, John, Paul and Lucy

As always The Arts Club provides us with an excellent venue and it was ideal for Paul et al to perform his work as every, humorous, word could be heard from anywhere in the large painting- and book-lined first floor reception room provided for us. Rather than describe this wonderful adaptation, Paul has kindly allowed us to publish it fully here. Please do take the time to read it.

Redolent of an archetypal "Gentlemans Club", The Arts Club also provides an up to date (there is a bar and nice food available) offering in a gentle and comfortable atmosphere. You will see part of the reception room we use in the photograph below. Our Chairman Hilary Bruce announced various events such as our Biennial Dinner at Grays Inn in October 2010 and the upcoming performance on BBC Radio 4 of Summer Lightning, featuring Martin Jarvis who performed at the society's A week with Wodehouse in 2007 and is famed for his Wodehouse audiobooks from CSA.

Perhaps 50 or 60 members were present at this gathering, our next meeting at The Arts Club will be on 16th November 2010, please see our Future Events section for more details.
